The Clean Air Act (CAA) signed into law on November 15, 1990 requires complete phase
out of CFCs by 1996. Owners will face the replacement of existing equipment or conversion
to the new HCFCs.
Depending on the location of your plant, the recently-enacted Clean Air Act Amendment
has put a tight cap on Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emission levels. The CFC
and HCFC used in many industrial refrigeration systems is also a form of VOC. The
new regulations -- which vary from county to county -- mandate ceilings of VOC emissions
ranging from as little as 25 tons per year to 100 tons per year.
Technology has developed the methods for refrigerant conversion or new equipment
to operate efficiently on the new, low-ozone-depletion refrigerants.
TIME TO CONVERT
Conversions take longer than you realize. Allow yourself adequate time. Small capacity
systems could require several weeks, while large capacity systems could require
several months. Contact Letsos for one of our field engineering personnel to consult
with you on your system.
REASONS TO CONVERT
The government mandate has declared the guidelines to be followed by the Clean Air
Act (CAA). If your compressor motor has failed or any other occurrences have contaminated
your system, now is the time to convert to the new refrigerants.
Letsos Company has successfully converted nearly every brand of chiller to the new
refrigerant.
